Yes… but he’s gone

I lay in our bed

Your side is made up; yeah… it’s been that way for a right good while now
I lay on my side, starring at the white blank wall and all I see is your face
Oh, oh
My best friend say “It’s been a month, you got to get over what happen that night... it wasn’t you fault.”
I take her advice

I get out of bed, I stumble over
I stay down on that cold floor
Right beside side my head is your old church shoes
I gather them up in my arms
I miss them tapping on the floor
The tears being to roll

I say “Why can’t I just get over you? Why can’t I get up off this floor with out trembling down to my core?”
Then I think about it and then I come to reason
Its cause I loved you, yeah
You face was the sweetest face I’d ever known
But it’s really my bad that you had to go
I’m so sorry
Guess that’s why you’re gone

I had a metal break down at work yesterday
I’ll never forget how screamed and cried
Boss says I’m off till I get my mind straight
I stayed up all night
Looking at the bed from the bathroom floor
I sat on the floor with a needle in my arm and I cried again

I say “Why can’t I just get over you? Why can’t I get up off this floor with out trembling down to my core?”
Then I think about it and then I come to reason
Its cause I loved you, yeah
You eyes was the sweetest eyes I’d ever known
But it’s really my bad that you had to go
I’m so sorry
Guess that’s why you’re gone

Saw you in my dreams
You were wearing the whitest gown I’d ever seen
I ran into your arms
You hold me there
I said, “Baby I miss you so much.”
You say, “I know, I miss ya too.”
I pulled you by the arm and say’ “Let’s go home tonight and sleep in each others arms.”
Your face grim and say the worst thing ever “I can’t baby girl.”
I pulled you harder “Yeah you can! There’s the exit door! Come on, let’s leave!!”
“My body is in the ground, this you know. I can’t leave here, I’m sorry I can’t go!”

That night you flew me to heaven
Though the feathered clouds and over the moon
Between the stars and though the galaxies far away
Before we got to those pearly gates
My alarm clock went off screaming and I woke up on the bed
And I said, “Why can’t I just get on with life? Why can’t I get up without trembling down to my core?”
Then I think about it and then I come to reason
Its cause I loved you, yeah
You kiss was the sweetest kiss I’d ever known
But it’s really my bad that you had to go
I’m so sorry
Guess that’s why you’re gone

When some one looks down at my little ring finger
They say “Oh your married, miss?”
I give a small smile and say “Yes… but he’s gone.”
