I am a musician because I understand things that others don't
We breathe and speak the same language
I am a musician because the nuances, the slightest changes of weight and angle, mean the world
The details are everything
I am a musician because I work for hours and then realize
We were looking in all the wrong places
I grasp, I understand, I experience. I strive to learn but come to realize.
I throw passion to the wind and surf on symphonic waves
We are a cult, a million body parts that operate in smooth synchronicity
Because everything goes infinitely deep
And learning is about taking the step down
Zooming in, perfecting each individual pixel

I've been playing string bass for 5 years and I want to be a professional player in a symphony orchestra when I grow up. I had a really inspiring lesson today, which prompted me to write this poem, just reflecting on some of the things I learned.
