Familiar faces smile.
“Gobble, gobble,” the two year old shouts.
Sunlight fills the room from the little window.
A large turkey slathered with seasoning sits on the table.

The themes tablecloth has leaves sporadically placed on it.
Pilgrim shaped salt and pepper shakers are set near the food.
Everyone eyes their food like it’s a culprit.
The prayer is said as an Amen circles the room like an echo.

The scraping of forks against teeth makes me shiver.
Leaning across the table, the antique chair squeaks.
Grandma’s dressing is eaten by all.
Cousins exchange recent stories or gossip.

Feeling of being where I belong, I let out a sigh.
Families all over the world get together on every fourth Thursday of November.
Today is Thanksgiving.
Today is the day we give thanks to the Lord.

Give thanks.
Give thanks.
Give thanks.
