Waves of Wonder
I step out onto the shimmering sand,
And watch as it spreads out under my feet,
Revealing thousands of smashed shells.
I stare at the deafening ocean,
And watch as another wave pounds into the water,
Creating a mound of sea foam.
A brown bench sways with the howling wind.
Someone plops down making it groan,
And it begins the steady motion of swinging back and forth.
The light is beginning to falter with the clouds spreading across the sky,
Making the green grass and brown bench,
Seem like the life had been sucked out of them.
Even with all the kids whirling around me,
I feel serene,
But I wonder, how should I remember this day?
