Why do parents lie?
Growing up,
I was always told,
"One must not tell lies."

Then I found out;
My Dad was the Tooth Fairy.
My Dad was the Easter Bunny.
My Mom was Santa Clause.

Then I found out;
No, they won't,
"Always love me."
After I told them,

Who I was.
And now-

The author's comments:
The double-standard is truly ironic to me. I wrote this poem due to my own emotions and situations, but I do hope others can read this and realize that they are not alone, if they feel this, too.
