Ivory Keys
And seeing you sit there,
Hands poised over the ivory keys,
The memories come flooding back,
To the days when I loved you with ease.
I close my eyes and listen
To the wondrous melody,
Thinking of the love I had,
The love that used to be.
Each note you play is a teardrop.
A sweet reminder of the past,
Dripping in rhythm with your heartbeat,
I used to hear as I lay upon your chest.
The chorus sang out from the hands I longed to hold once and yet again.
I study your too familiar face,
Engraved with the memories of then.
I miss your soothing voice,
The one that still echoes in my head.
It reminds me how I lost you,
A mistake I'll always regret..
