I Left Early…
We may stay here till we die

(pg. 14)
A conch he called it.

(pg. 15)
Ever so valuable,

(pg. 15)
Ever. So. Delicate

(pg. 15)
Laid the small end of the shell
To his mouth
And blew,

(pg. 16)
But I left early

Merridew,

(pg. 20)
Jack Merridew

(pg. 20)
Seems we ought to have a chief

(pg. 20)
Him the one with the shell

(pg. 21)
Who wants me? `

(pg. 21)
Ralph! Ralph!

(pg. 21)
Jack’s freckles

(pg. 21)
Disappeared under a blush

(pg. 21)
Of mortification

(pg. 21)
But I left early

Hunters

(pg. 22)
Real exploring

(pg. 25)
Like a bomb!

(pg. 26)
The right of domination

(pg. 27)
Stick a pig

(pg. 29)
Just wait for the moment.
To decide where to stab him,

(pg. 29)
Cut the pigs throat,

(pg.29)
Let the blood.
Out,

(pg. 29)
But I, left early.

A Beastie,

(pg. 33)
Snake-thing,

(pg. 33)
Ever so big,

(pg. 33)
From the air,

(pg. 86)
From the water,

(pg. 69)
Silent as death,

(pg. 43)
Where is he now?

(pg. 43)
Fear,

(pg. 43)
A clever beast,

(pg. 79)
Teeth, big black eyes

(pg. 113)
We saw the beast,

(pg. 89)
I’m Frightened. Of
Us.

(pg. 142)
So I left early.

A fire! Make a fire!

(pg. 35)
Light the fire!

(pg. 37)
Piggy’s specs!

(pg. 38)
More wood!

(pg. 38)
Green branches,
That littlun with the birthmark
On his face

(pg. 43)
Where is he now?

(pg. 43)
Is it a ship?

(pg.49)
Smoke! Smoke!

(pg. 60)
The smoke on the mountain

(pg. 60)
Is there a signal

(pg. 61)
Oh God, oh God!

(pg. 61)
Fire was dead

(pg. 61)
But I left early

You’re batty

(pg. 101)
He’s queer,

(pg. 50)
He’s funny,

(pg. 50)
Small, skinny

(pg. 51)
Chin pointed and eyes so bright
They had deceived Ralph that he was
Gay and
Wicked

(pg. 51)
Black hair concealing his low,
Broad forehead

(pg. 51)
Simon found for them the fruit they
Could not
Reach

(pg. 51)
He came to the place where
Sunshine
Fell

(pg. 51)
But I left early.

Silence accepted the
Gift

(pg. 126)
The sow’s head still remained
Like an after-image

(pg. 125)
It appeared to agree with
Him

(pg. 125)
In front of Simon the
Lord of the Flies

(pg. 125)
Hung on his stick and
Grinned

(pg. 125)
But I left early

Kill the Beast!
Cut its Throat!
Spill its blood!

(pg. 138)
Him! Him!

(pg. 139)
Piggy and Ralph,
Eager to take place in this demented
But secure society.

(pg. 138)
Beast stumbled in

(pg. 139)
Simon was crying

(pg. 139)
On its knees,
Arms folded over his
Face

(pg. 138)
They screamed,
Struck,
Bit,
Tore

(pg. 139)
Teeth and claws pouring
Like a waterfall

(pg. 139)
Simon’s broken body

(pg. 139)
Turned gently in the water

(pg.139)
But I left early

Led the way

(pg. 55)
Straight through the castles,

(pg. 55)
Kicking them over,

(pg. 55)
Burying the flowers,

(pg. 55)
Scattering the chosen
Stones

(pg. 55)
Shock of black hair,
Down his nape

(pg. 55)
Roger looked from the nuts,
To Henry and back again

(pg. 56)
Picked a stone, aimed,
And threw

(pg. 56)
Aimed to
Miss

(pg. 56)
Grabbed a handful and
Began to
Throw

(pg. 56)
He smeared on the clay

(pg. 57)
Throwing stones

(pg. 164)
Wielding a nameless authority

(pg. 166)
Roger leaned all his weight
On the lever

(pg. 164)
Struck Piggy,

(pg. 164)
Head opened, stuff came out
And turned
Red.

(pg. 165)
Piggy was
Gone
But I left early.

Which is better,
To be pack of painted Indians or
Sensible like Ralph is?

(pg. 164)
To have rules and agree,
Or to hunt and
Kill.

(pg. 164)
Do you see what
Fear has done to us?
Do you see what fear can
Do?
Talk about Beasts, but
Maybe it’s only
Us

(pg. 80)
Talk about assemblies
But they always end up
Corrupt.
The Beast,
Cannot be hunted
Who wouldn’t be afraid?
Of the darkest fears
The war had begun
But I left early

I should have thought that
A pack of British boys would have
Been able to put up a better
Show

(pg.184)
Two?
Killed?

(pg. 183)
Who’s boss?

(pg. 183)
Having a
War?

(pg. 183)
We’ll take you
Off

(pg. 183)
But I left early
