Strong One
She looked like a stranger
Too fragile to be true
But then I saw those eyes
I know that it is you

My walls come crashing down
My leaks have by now sprung
Now I am in your arms
You've always been the strong one

In October of 2011 I found out that my grandmother has leukemia. When I went to visit her I almost didn't believe that the person I was seeing was really her, but all it took was one good look into her eyes and I knew. I knew that it was her, and that reality was hard to face up to. My grandma really was sick. I tried to be strong, but I broke down. Before I knew it I was in her arms just like when I was little and she held me after I skinned a knee. I wrote this poem shortly after visiting her. It is in honor of her and the strength she has even at her weakest. She is and always be our families rock. I love you grandma.
