Masquerades & Drywall
When I cry you never see it, when I scream you never hear.
I wake each night drenched in sweat and my own tears.
My nightmares never wake you, for silence is my gift.
I suffer in secret, my pain hidden behind a mask of deadly calm.
My life is easy, carefree, and fun, when seen from the viewers perspective.
But in the eyes of me, the actress, a different story is told.
They say the eyes are windows to the soul, so downcast do mine remain.
Defending against the glares and glances of curious eyes who may see through me.
For the moment my secrets all are safe, my mind is my shelter still.
The impassive face I wear as a second skin still fully intact.
Don't remove my mask, my friend, and stop punching holes in my drywall.
