I thank God for my life that almost came to an end
I left my school rehearsal, and said good-bye to all my friends.
I walked between two cars, and waited to look both ways
A lady in her SUV waved me on to say “okay.”
I began to run, then I suddenly began to fly, then began to wait, I thought that I had died
My sister began to scream she ran to me and cried
The people crowded around my broken body then
I thank God for my life that almost came to an end

The police showed up, and the EMTs,
My head was spinning and I couldn’t feel my knees
Then I remember waking up at CUMC
My mother and my father thankful I was still me
I remembered flying, and seeing my sister’s tears then
I thank God for my life that almost came to an end

My knee was injured badly, but that was all they could see
My mother kept on saying, “You really are lucky”
I felt my knee in pain, but knew it could be worse,
I knew I could’ve hit my head, then I would never say a verse,
I simply had to grin through an endless painful blend
But I thanked God for my life that almost came to an end

It’s been a year, and there’s still progress to be made
So much so, that I feel further delayed
So much pain, and so much fear
Has developed from the past year
Not a night passes by that can make my injury mend
Still I thank God for my life that almost came to an end

Sometimes I wonder why I got hit at all
Then again, I couldn’t help it, it was just God’s call
I hope that someone will learn from my near fatal mistake
But I’ve seen no one’s learned what that car could really break
What I did was unsafe, convenient, but not right
No one seems to really know how bad it could’ve been that night
There’s no other way to say it, just stop this dangerous trend,
And thank God for your life, you never know when it could end.
