I’m sorry I put you away at the end of winter

I’m sorry you’ll never get to feel

and absorb

the warmth of the summer sun

I’m sorry The Beach will never see

the way you grace

and surround my body

I’m sorry you won’t be

thrown in the trunk

of my friend’s beat-up car

I’m sorry you’ll never experience the thrill

of renting your own shore house

with no parents around

I’m sorry you’ll never

wait in line for hours

just to experience the thrill of a roller coaster

I’m sorry you’ll never walk along the beach at night

feel the warmth of a bonfire

and drift with the ocean breeze

I’m sorry you’ll never get to experience summer
