I turn and watch
observe and absorb his actions.
This man sits tall and proud
aged with wisdom.
His hands cradle a Bible between them
oh so carefully.
On one single finger
A band of love is worn with meaning.
These are the tanned and worn hands
of a hard worker.
Strong and powerful
yet comforting.
These hands are the unseen force
that keep me safe.
Though these hands are gone
they still guide me.
Why'd you have to leave?
"To be with God."

The author's comments:
This was a writing assignment for my 10the grade English class. We had to write about someones hands, ask theat person a question, and have thee last line be theeir answer. This was very emotional for me to write at thee time because my Granddaddy was my best friend when i was younger. And ever since his passing, he has continued to be a theriving inspiration for my poems, writings, and art.
