Bright Lights

My palms are sweaty.
I am shaking.
In the dark.
Backstage.
Light flickers under the curtain
as shadows pass.
I hear my cue line
and stumble onstage.
Surprised by the bright lights,
I squint and turn my head.
Finally, I look forward,
take a deep breath,
and become
someone else.
