The Silent Ice

A hungry fire crawls up to my solace
Burning the consolation that had once comforted me
I blister in the increasing heat,
Losing what was once my hope

I tremble, fearing the fire might slice open my half-healed wounds
I yell for mercy
The fire roars- it has none…
The blazing light leaves me blind

I see no more
And for what might slice open my half-healed wounds-
It remains unknown, but I know
It was the pain I tried so hard to ignore

Suddenly a cascade of darkness floods my life
It is not the type of obscurity one would fear,
But one that no fire would ever embrace because
This darkness liberated, along with it, ice that might repress the fire.

The fire’s fierce roar rebels against my silent companion.
The ice, never melting- never breaking, diminishes the fire
Ray by ray until the fire settles down
And swarms down the eternal path to feed on another life…
