Gone in an Instant
Snap, crackle, pop, is not the sound from a breakfast cereal
It is the noise that emanates from the embers of my past
My hands covered with soot, my clothes reek of smoke
The tears drip down my cheeks like rain
The house of my childhood is gone
My neighbor’s sits untouched
Why me? What did I do?
I sift through the ashes
Not a photo remains
A helicopter circles
Did my cat survive?
Everything is lost
Nothing gained
Fire is to blame
Gone
