They Scream Obscenities
Here I stand alone.
I stand judged,
I stand criticized.
Here I stand hurt
all because of whom I love.
They scream obscenities,
scream how terrible of a person I am.
They don’t even know me,
don’t even know what I’m like.
They just see me holding his hand.
I’m not legally allowed to marry who I love,
who I want to spend the rest of my life with,
who I want to adopt our children with.
Shouldn’t that be enough pain?
No, they keep screaming their obscenities.
“Love is love,”
That’s what I’ve always said.
I wish you were as understanding
as I would be if I were straight.
