Reaching for Nothing

I try to reach for you
But nothing is there.
No one to hold when I am sad
Not a shoulder to cry on when I need it
Not a friend who I can talk to when I am lonely
All because of you.

You said this would happen
So congratulation! You did it.
You ruined my life and broke me down but I won’t let you see that.
I won’t let you know you succeeded.
Because the only thing I have left is my pride
And you won’t take that away too.

Every night I cry myself to sleep
Because I remember when we used to be friends
Best friends, sisters, inseparable.
Now, when I need you the most,
I know you aren’t there
So why do I still reach?

I reach because one day I hope you will be there
I hope that you have changed your mind and forgave me
I hope that you will realize it was just a mistake.
For years now, I have regretted it and wished I could change it
Wished that it hadn’t happened
But it’s too late for that and all I can do is reach for you.

If I fall I don’t expect you to catch me,
I don’t expect you to care,
I expect you to walk away and not give me a second glance
And I understand but I still wish you would be there,
But I know you won’t
And I know I deserve it.

Surprise me and prove me wrong,
Show me you still care.
Comfort me when I am down,
Give me a shoulder to cry on,
Give me the friend you were to me,
Show me I am not reaching for nothing.

Max, you've got a way with words, add that to a relatable subject and the result is a pasterpiece! :)

I like the last stanza a lot! If you want to do anything more or something to consider is a term that is used in my Language Arts class called "cutting the scraps" where you can remove extra words such as (like, An, the, etc.)
