Forgive me for straying from
The divine wisdom of everything you’ve ever said.
But a minefield is a minefield, even
If only shattered bones can convince you.
Blood may be thicker than water
But water is thicker than air,
Which is thinner than the strings that tie our hearts together.
You have mine and I have yours.
Let’s melt them like metal and make them
into soda cans we can throw on the railroad tracks.
I broke the glass at your feet
Staring at the ground lends me
A new perspective.
I look at it upside down and I see
You standing upright.
With chewing gum in your hair
And a curl on your lips,
But a minefield is a minefield.
So forgive me for straying but its my time
To walk on my own.
