Silence

Hear the sound of silence,
The sound of our world's pain.
Resonating through the air
Tell me: Who's to blame?

Not the vices nor their puppets,
Spreading the human hate.
But the virtues and their guardians,
Who turn their heads and wait

For someone else to speak against
The wrong that stains the good.
Protagonists who say nothing;
Bad as criminals who do.

Explain to me, complacency
Hollow eyes watching here.
Defend for me, cowardly
Becoming mute when faced with fear

Violence, dreading,
Screaming! Hope to Doubt
All cancerously ebbing,
Yet no tongue lashes out.

To ignore is to accept,
To allow is to promote.
Silence burns me in my ears,
Words stagnant in your throat.

We are the sound of silence,
Reflecting our world's pain.
Find a voice and hear me,
Now is the time to end this game.

This truly is amazing!  Unlike a lot of free verse poems, this one has excellent capitalization and punctuation.  Bonus marks!  And the topic is a common one, but I can feel your anger through these wonderful, powerful words.  Excellent work!

Oh, I've added this to my favourites.

Sometimes the thoughts in my head get bored and go for a stroll out through my mouth. This is rarely a good thing.

I liked it! Meaningful, and I liked the rhyming! Good job:)

This is great. Most of the rhymeing poems i read sound forced and unpoetic but this is so lovely and rhythmatic. Beutiful

Thank you :) And I understand bias -- everyone interprets everything differently. It's not for everyone. So I do appreciate your rating and comments ;D

Love the message and the way you wrote it. Its right on the edge of 5 stars. The only problem is that the subject isnt quite my cup of tea. its great though but my own bias is stopping me. I'll say 5 stars.

\"She\'s got it out for me BUT I WEAR THE BIGGEST SMILE"

This was a good poem (though very depressing). I don't think that you should use phrases such as "tell me:". I particularly liked the part about the "good" doing nothing and being as bad as the antagonists, because for me that's the most true. people these days, when they see something bad, half of them just walk by it. The eivl of being a bystandar.

I seriously LOVED this. I personally agree with every statement you made. I love the part where you say "To ignore is to accept." "To allow is to promote." Great job! I couldn't have said it better myself. I can honestly say, this poem amazed me in every single way. 5 out of 5 stars no question. Please keep writing. I would LOVE to read more. I would be honored if you commented/rated some of my poetry. Thank you for posting this beautiful poem. (:

Thank you :) Much appreciated, really.

And I was thinking abouut everything our world is filled with, and how most acknowledge that it's wrong... but yet do you hardly ever see anyone do anything?

I don't like to analyze or explain my poems, because they are given meaning by the reader and what they bring to the table. What their views and experiences are.

So it's about whatever you'd like it to be, but that's what I was thinking originally, and then I just wrote. No thoughts, just emotion through the pencil.
