A dark room waiting to be explored
Hidden inside my house of thoughts
At a glance the house is strong and resilient
But peer inside its doors and windows
It’s a lonely, hollow place.
Darkened with years of torment and loss
Its wood has been destroyed by termites
Its structure eroded by the hands of time
And its doors, all slammed shut, are broken and rotted.
It allowed a visitor, once
She destroyed its foundation one inch at a time
She entered, pillaged and fled, leaving a hollow shell in her wake.
Now no one may enter this decrepit place
Day after day it puts on a brave face
And stands tall as people walk by
On the outside it is accepted by the birds and plants
But its inside scares away even the best renovator.
Before its structure rots and its foundation is buried beneath the dirt
The inside must be exposed
And my story must be told.
