"Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing."
– Mother Teresa

Darkness surrounds
My feet pound the empty pavement
Fear of the unknown
Breathing down my neck
Clawing at my back
Caught, dragged down

I only catch a glimpse
Of this evil
Searing pain
Tears my apart
Blind, deaf, paralyzed
Screaming, crying, fighting
Now awake, unharmed
Caught up in my blankets
Unnerved by dark thoughts

The author's comments:
I have had to deal with some pretty dark things in my life. Since writing helps hold me together, I decided to turn my fear into a series of poetry. Pain into beauty- yes, it seems better that way.
