Caving In
This girl, stares into the mirror,
Looks beyond the superficial reflection, shiny slick
Glass, to herself, she pulls a brush through
Tangles of knots, pulls, rive the kinks,
Simple lines, simple times
Heart swelling, leaking emotions,
Fill the box; don’t stray to the cracks,
No way out, worked so hard to get it,
Barely seeing, everything on cue,
Mapped out every step, every breath,
Locked in, hold yourself,
They did this to us.
The sides give in,
Limp, swollen, broken,
Expectations, limitations,
Restrictions,
Restrictions, standards
Can’t be set, can’t stay
Spirals to truth, to you.
