His ears droop into the water bowl.
He lumbers into the cage.
When summer comes
he pants and moans,
begging to come inside.
For Flopsy is a winter bunny.
His ancestors came from the mountain snow.
When summer comes
he is most uncomfortable.
Indeed, a laughable sight for his brother.

His ears stick into the rooftop.
He bounces into the cage.
When winter comes
he shivers and chatters,
begging to come inside.
For Ropsy is a summer bunny.
His ancestors came from the desert fields.
When winter comes
he is most uncomfortable.
Indeed, a pitiful sight for his brother.

These two rabbits
call themselves brothers:
born in the same cardboard box,
raised on the same bottled milk,
adopted from the same concrete house.
They look and act
nothing alike.
But don’t be fooled,
they are brothers.
