If we’re playing pretend, then I’m pretty
Wrapped in a silk sundress with a dandelion wreath
Halo, glowing gold and green.
And when you say I love you, I know you’re thinking
Of whips lashing, choking on ashes, bats screeching
Because everything is a lie.
When you hold me at night,
I am surprised when I wake up with the
Blue skies filtering in through your black blinds,
That you did not squeeze too tight.
And when you touch me, I am impressed;
You can stand it.
So long as we’re playing pretend, I love you too.
And all the glittering thoughtful things you do.
