Cobwebs In My Head
While wading through the cobwebs in my head
I met among their veils a man in red
His face, bone white, burned cold with hate and lust
And through his eyes I saw the fate of us
Transfixed, I watched the rolling plains decay
Among the ruined earth the people lay
Coughing dusts their own advancement made
And in their lifeless hands, the debt was paid
Chained in this dream, my bloody prophet came
Brought images to flash and burn in flame.
And this is what I saw:
Hunger in the shadow of a train
Confusion in the lesions of a brain
Monotony in fading twilight places
And ghosts in every plane of passing faces
Branches twined, eclipse the jewels of night
While spirits shriek and moan at sight of light
The screaming of the thunder folded round us
Until the despairing planet drowned us.
