Broken Barbie Doll
Toss back your blond hair,
Over your shoulder.
Gaze into his eyes,
Now let your long lashes flutter.
Laugh at his dumb joke,
Put a hand on his arm.
Taking him is easy,
You’ve got natural charms.
I’ve got to study,
Sit back and observe.
You’ve got it so easy,
My goodbye goes unheard.
Because you could have anyone,
And yet you want him.
Is it because I was the first one,
To say hi to the kid?
Because I might have a shot,
With this kid maybe,
If I try really hard,
He just might see me.
But your star shines so brightly,
And mine is so weak.
Just a hue of a rainbow,
Once at its peak.
Now it has faded,
The sky has turned back to blue.
One day I will resurface,
And I will overtake you.
Right now it’s not possible,
And I blink back tears.
Head to the gate,
I’m almost there.
When he jumps up,
Leaves you to your own.
Wraps an arm around me,
And then takes me home.
I look behind me,
Observe you standing there.
A broken Barbie doll,
You’ve got frizz in your hair.
And your star seems to dim,
While mine seems to glow.
His hand slips into mine,
And that’s how I know.
That you’re no longer here,
In his thoughts,
You are long gone,
And I’m all he’s got.
I start to tremble,
Then begin to shake,
Because for the first time in a long time,
I’m not in second place.
