I look out
Out at the vast world that lies before me
Many dreams, many lives, many opportunities
But me, I am a trapped
Trapped deep inside walls that will never give
Walls that imprison me
With no way out
Waiting like a rock weathering slowly
Waiting to be free like a cocooned caterpillar
I can’t leave, not until I am the age
The age where I can create my own life
But what’s holding me back?
Parents
No not parents, but that they don’t exist
Not to me anyway
I thought long ago
My life was normal
Living among many mommies and sisters
At least that’s what I thought they were
Then I found out
I was alone in this world
Sure people cared but not enough to help me spread my wings
They were there to feed me
To be sure I didn’t get in trouble
They didn’t help me take flight,
Find my path to the future
No
But now, I will rise above
Creating a place for myself in this world
Not hidden deep behind a thick high wall

Such an amazing poem about finding yourself! I love this!

Beautiful poem -- for your ability to reflect upon and express your experience of the world (or to imagine how another might experience of it), and for its rhythm and delight in language. We love you!

Anna, I hope that you do not really feel this way.  I, and the rest of the family love you and all feel that you are one of us and the best and sweetest of us all.               Uncle Bob
