Upon Meeting You for Dinner
Silence penetrates
Into your ear
and over
My cold steak.
Which I didn't want to eat
But did anyway,
just to please you.
I stab a carrot,
a potato round.
In attempt to create
some sort of sound.
My glass needs a refill
But
I'll just sit here,
Be still.
And while you drown your baked potato
in sour cream
and sharp cheddar,
I take note
That I like your other sweater
Much better.
