Right there
On my grandmother’s living room floor
The old couches built like buildings
To our tiny people
Little toy cars
Red, blue, white, green, and black
Racing around pretend roads
My cousin K-Lin by my side

I want that car! I’d yell
When I thought she’d take it
Driving little cars around
Little businesses
With such joy and freedom
Laughing as I crash a car
Into the couch
And I knew
That tomorrow we could play again

Now as I look
At that same room
I don’t see roads, businesses, and cars
I just see an empty room
I used to think that playing toy cars
Would never end
But…

When K-Lin grew up
She took them with her
I laugh as I look back now
Remembering the races and roads
A lot has changed

I loved playing cars
But…
I knew I had to grow up too.

I wrote this poem because I want people to see what I liked to do when I was younger and how it has changed over the years.
