dont live life worrying about what everyone else thinks about you.

Opening day-
November.
The sun starts to peek out
over the snow-less ground.
Warmth of the heater
keeping us nice and toasty.
Dad looking right
and myself looking left.

“Nan” my dad whispered.
Then points.
A buck running across the field,
but within a matter of seconds
its too late.
Into brush it went
but didn’t come back out.

Its closer and closer to closing time.
I look up,
and there he is again.

Without thinking
I grab my gun
find the deer
flip it off safety
and BOOM!
I pulled the trigger.

My heart racing faster than ever.
The buck dropped to the ground.
“Way to go Nan!” my dad shouted.
Then out of nowhere he jumped back up.

Yes, it was 186 yards out.
Yes, it dropped right away.
And
yes, I was certain I hit it.

Just incase,
I shot again.
The few minutes we waited
felt like a lifetime.
I soon ran out of patience
“Lets go” I said.

It wasn’t too long before my phone rang.
It was my uncle
he came to help find him.
Seconds later I hear…
“We got him!”
“Nice one!”
My uncle said.

There it laid
my first buck
a beautiful shot
a beautiful buck
8pts
18 inch spread.

There we stood
my dad and I.
Side by side.
“I’m proud of you nan”
He said.
