Stuffed Animals
Stuffed Animals
a comfort I never understood
a child’s version of taxidermy
it’s a euphemism
that veils the mind to the beast within.
Fluff is not inside that teddy bear!
There’s a flesh-tearing,
territory-protecting,
Pain-inflicting,
beast.
A monster that hibernates only
to save up a fury that would
put erupting volcanoes to shame.
A mammal that can rip open
Its prey with claws of razors.
Yet this monster,
this beast,
this animal
is shrunk down and stuffed,
put into a child’s room
and sought for comfort.
