Shattered Tears

By , Denver, CO
A single tear leisurely rolled down her rosy cheeks
Shattering as it touched the ground
He spun on his heels
As if he could hear it splinter against the floor
She roughly brushed the tear off her face
Turning her back to him, never looking back
She had permitted him to play her like guitar strings
She let him fool her for so long
If he could find her tears in the ocean
She promised herself to him
He failed just like all the others
She allowed all past feelings to drain away-dispersing from her cognizance
Regret coursed through his veins
It finally dawned on him
She was a girl who didn’t change her mind
And he was a boy who didn't get second chances
