Reflection

I look in the mirror, but what do I see?
A new-born child smiling back at me.
Only four pounds with bright blue eyes,
Angels watching over her as she cries.

I look in the mirror, but what do I see?
A blonde-haired girl at the age of three.
She smiles and she laughs, and she plays all day,
Not a care in the world as her troubles float away.

I look in the mirror, but what do I see?
A twelve year old girl sitting up in a tree.
Dreaming of fame and fortune, and riches,
Straying away from her very first kisses.

I look in the mirror, but what do I see?
A young teenager running wild and free.
A boyfriend, a car, and a high school diploma,
The smell of success is a desired aroma.

I look in the mirror, but what do I see?
A grown-up girl with a family.
A husband, two kids, and a mile long list,
Being a kid again is her only wish.

As a child you can wait to do all the "grown up things" but I think as you get older you realize what and how much responsibility you have and you just want to go back when the hardest thing for you was what color crayon to use next.

Right!? It ridiculous how fast we grow up these days. Kids aren't really kids anymore. We have jobs and responsibilities. its crazy.

Beautiful. It's funny, because I just wrote something kind of like this when I woke up today. Think you could read some of my poems for me?
