I’m from old bunny slippers
From airplanes and travel bags
I am from here and there
And then from no where
I am from roses and lemon trees
Whose branches watched me sleep
I am from books and bibles
From Cano and Hernandez
I am from angry faces and hurting words
And from tender eyes that mend it all
I am from hypocritical smiles
I am from Matilde and Emelila
From mole and tamales
From masks and fake smiles
And from holidays of empty bottles
Holding strong when everyone runs
I am from baggage never forgotten
And mistakes with a meaning.
