I was an accident planned to happen with
chubby cheeks, small frame and a habit to illness.
My coughing caused rolling into a broken collar bone
One night my troubled breathing was rushed to the ER
Staying in a hospital bed I was waking up every hour
Finding safety with my Mama next to me

Creativity flowed into my food
Every bite on my fork had its own unique spark
I prepare pastries in the kitchen
They happen to be a sinful gift showing up in the oven
My grandma’s homemade tortillas are a tradition arriving at every event
Bringing warm fuzzies and happy tummies
Mom provides the warmth for the long day by making chicken dumpling soup during a cold day

Family followed me into memories
I sled down a snowy hill
Securely strapped in my Father’s arms
Touring the zoo with my Tia to see a Giraffe
Such a sight for both our eyes
Cutting my hair for a surprising Christmas card for Mom
One day I was kissing lipstick on the wall
That brought a disappointed smirk

I saw the ocean for the first time
First time for the three of us too
A new life brought to my now family of three
We were no longer a even number
My lifestyle now involved traveling to see a male role model
A surprising change issued anxiety and confusion
to a life I knew very little about
