I dangled my feet
Over the edge
Peering down into
The eternal darkness below

My foot brushed a rock loose
And I watched it patiently

The consuming darkness below

I briefly wondered
How excruciating the pain would be to

I slowly closed my eyes to the world
In an attempt to prepare myself to

I spread my arms out wide open
Leaned toward the black hole in which I’d

The peaceful darkness below

Suddenly jerked on my back I saw
A pair of blue eyes that kept me from
Tumbling and tumbling into
The sweet darkness below

Startled I asked him
Why he had stopped me from
Tumbling and tumbling into
The beautiful darkness below

He merely replied, how could I not?
My love for you burns too brightly
And it would be extinguished if you fell into
The treacherous darkness below
