Lights and Water

Pale feet
Lightly dancing
Through tiny
Puddles of rainwater
Glistening with silver
Swirls of oil.

An abundance
Of clear little droplets
Continuously fall
In careless patterns
Making it impossible
For me to escape.

My body drenched
In a cool clammy
Coating of the
Dampness of the day.

Traces of water
Trickle down from
Heavy gray clouds
And gently descend
Into pavement pools
Causing ripples
Throughout the once
Placid street craters.

A distorting fog
Envelops around
My saturated skin.
My eyelashes
Turn to morning grass
With fresh drops of dew
Perfectly placed upon each one.

My calves become decorated
With splattered spots
Of cold wet mud
From my childish impulse
To walk defenseless
Through a violent storm.
Unguarded, it’s a fresh beginning
Beneath lights and water.
