altered to the point of non recognition
no longer their source
of inspiration
spirituality
and home

water
filled to the brim
with lies
despised
until
it is rancid
with the overflow
of others' hatred

still
they march on
an unbowed army
though in our eyes
they are very much
defeated

yet they never lose pride
though prejudiced
hated
and beaten
their way of life
before the takeover,
ridiculed,
mocked,
assumed,
until there is nothing left
but an idea of what once was
thrust upon the confused head
of the person they are thought to be
