If I could be me,
and only me,
then could anyone know
who I am supposed to be?

With this question asked
with the options unexplored
with every door begging
"I'm your future."
"I'm the answer."
"I'm your second chance."

If the only key
to open these doors
Was me, simply me,
being who I am supposed to be,
Would the key fit?
Would it click?
Would the door ease open?

Or would it get stuck?
Would I have to jiggle the handle?
Would I kick the door angrily?
Only to find that,
I have the wrong key.

The key I thought was me
wasn't actually me.
I had falsified myself,
tried to be who
I wasn't supposed to be.

Can anyone tell me
who I am supposed to be?
For if I can't find me
I won't have a key.
And without a key,
I can't open doors.

And if I can't open doors...
well.
Then I'm stuck in this empty room.
