It Was Only a Dream
Brushing teeth, drop cap on the floor
You idiot. Can’t do simple thing.
At school, walking to class, forget a book
Why are you so useless?
Took a test, get it back, B+
So incompetent.
Job interview, nervous, stuttering
You won’t get the job.
In my car, see a red mustang, driving past
His car is nicer.
Visit friend’s house, so big, and so beautiful
You don’t belong here
Drive home, homeless man, give him a dollar
One dollar? So selfish?
Look in mirror, wash face, wash it again, and again
And again. And again. And again.
Why so imperfect?
Next morning, toothpaste spills everywhere.
At school, walking to class, book stolen.
Test back, grade F.
Job interview, nervous, missed it.
In my car, see red mustang, in car accident.
Visit friend’s house, so big, on fire.
Drive home, homeless man, smoking.
Look in mirror, wash face, again, and again, and again…
Then. Wake up.
You’re perfect, voice says.
