Behind these four walls,
A caged bird sings.
He stares through a window,
Stretching sullen wings.

He sings a forever song,
Of wanting and faith.
Yet no help will come,
To the bird behind the cage.

Flashing memories of freedom,
Yield scares of excess pain.
So the bird changes tune,
Understanding the truth.

The song slowly closes,
With longing in his eyes.
The bird quietly lays down,
And contently dies.
