I have two: "if you could read my mind you'd be in tears"..."we stopped checking unde the bed for monsters when we realized they were inside of us"

Ashes
Falling from the sky
Rain drops meant to be clear
Dark as the night

Trees
Laying across the tar
Should be tall and strong, now
Desecrating the landscape

Animals
Extinction has never been more accurate a term
Should be roaming free
Disappeared only skeletons remain

Bones
Splintered and charred
Broken from it all
The only remnant of past life

People
We'd like to believe that we're forever
We aren't
We die, we disappear, but we still try to leave our mark

Earth
The mark.
The one thing guaranteed to out last us.

The author's comments:
Read the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy and I guess it kind of inspired ke to write this kind of post-apocalyptic poem.
