Shame

Like a helm a’crest your brow,
so sits shame, plaguing the now.
Glib and grim so it does sit,
and sinks you down along with it.
It wants your heart, and it wants it bad
it has taken whatever joy you once had.
So down you throw it, athwart the sea
and away it fades, content to let you be.
Unless you change, it shall return
How I hope your lesson you learned.
