Seconds
Life is seconds.
Seconds and minutes and hours and days
Weeks and months and years spent
Hoping for more seconds,
So that there may be more
And more for us to hope for.
But life is also firsts.
First breaths and laughs and walks and kisses
Loves and hugs and wishes forgotten
In the passing of seconds,
Waiting for there to be more
And more for us to reach for.
But life is nothing.
Zero and nada and zip and zilch
Nix and naught and nil
If we forget all of the firsts
And let our seconds pass,
Because there will always be more
And so much more for us to grasp.
So you see, life is seconds.
Filled with firsts and bests and worsts
Marked by tears and scars and smiles
That build up to shape our lives
Every day that we open our eyes,
And there will always be so very much more
Because each day is a new "first" door.
