Black Ties and White Lies
I want to know
What makes a night out complete.
 Undoubtedly it’s not
The high heels, the fake smiles,
Nor do I love the social setting
 That only has people whispering.

 I want to know
 How to arrive home
 Without an inferiority complex.
How can I ever measure up?
 There is no awards ceremony
 That would ever honor me.

 I want to know
 Why we do anything
If we’re only thinking about the
 Next thing
And talking about the last thing..

 I want to know
 What’s here,
 What’s real,
And why there are so many
 Illusions thrown in.
