drinking

I know
it's hard
for you to
get
why I don't
scratch that.
why I won't
drink
it's so easy
to talk
crap
from the
outside looking in
but from the inside looking out
I can't say it's that easy
to quit
to change
If it eases the pain
it's good, right?
wrong
not when it creates more problems
what am I to say?
what would you say?
to a mother who's wasting herself
away.

I wrote this for myself mostly. I hate to say it, but with my poetry I'm very selfish. Even when it's dedicated to someone else it's for me. My mom's an alcoholic. I tell people any time the subject of drinking comes up that I won't ever drink. When I explain the situation it's still difficult for them to grasp. Especially if they haven't been in these shoes. My mom's been sober for two years. I'm so proud of her. Basically I wrote this as an explanation to my friends.
