A Split Second

Silence swirled
Encasing the world
Words were spoken
Never to be heard
Lost in the void
Lost in sound-less
Echo-filled room
White walls closed
In on them
Heart pounding
Pulse racing
Mind slowed
Thoughts stopped
The news had come that morning
And already they felt sick
Already they felt weighted
The news had broken
Shattered everything
Hearts and minds
Thoughts and friends
A group that had been
Closer than close
But farther than far
There when she fell
And there when her eyes closed
And there when the news broke
The walls seemed to be
Inching ever so slightly
Ever so slightly inching
Towards the group
Mind slowed
Edges blurred
Thoughts broken
Pulse racing
And the words silent
The tears silent
The word silent
Silent at her passing

This is a piece I hope will convey that split second of panic you feel when you find out you've lost someone close to you.
