"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."
— Marilyn Monroe

You kiss me in my dreams, my love.
You hold my hand and whisper
"It will be alright, darling."
You let me cry in your arms.
You comfort me with your touch.
But the time to wake is approaching...
Don't make me stop dreaming!
I can't face the reality!
"I will be home soon," you tell me...
And I know I must open my eyes now.
The daytime is the reality of being a soldier's wife.
First though, in my dreams,
I will tell you through my tears...
"come home safely, my love..."

The author's comments:
My husband is a soldier. He is not deployed yet, but we are not together because my school is 1600 miles from where he is stationed. He IS being deployed to Afghanistan soon, however, and the fear that comes from that inspired this poem.
