"If you end up with a boring miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest, or some guy on television telling you how to do your [stuff], then you deserve it."
▼ Frank Zappa

We exist
in our own minds
as the stars circle
basic space
and center around each individual
a destiny spelled out
by our own intentions.
Misguided
bemused
we walk blinded
tripping on planets.

We wander
and sigh
tears weeping
smiles beaming
hands shaking
toes aching
hearts still beating
lungs still breathing.

We fail to expose true gratitude
towards our ever expanding mystery
of bouncing particles
mixing with dust
gliding through everywhere
travelling farther than we will never reach.

The author's comments:
I was inspired by the song "Basic Space" by The xx. My main inspiration came solely from the title alone and not the meaning of the song. I hope that when reading my poem, the readers will realize how small and vulnerable we are compared to the vastness of space and beyond and how we can't just walk through life.
