Empty Shoes

By , Tallahassee, FL
Dad,
A man who gently
wrapped his arms
around me.

Dad,
A man who held
my hand as we crossed
the busy street.

Dad,
who watched me swim,
for the first time.

Dad,
who is scared to look
at himself in the mirror,
who is afraid of his own
shadow, who is afraid to
look at me.

Dad,
who left me behind
to sit in the cold.

Dad,
A man who dug
his own grave and now
can't get out.

Dad,
who tells me he misses me
without a doubt, but eyes
say it all.

Dad,
who won't listen
to what he feels but the thoughts
of others.

Dad,
A man who loves with his
eyes, and not his heart.

Dad,
A man who takes advantage
of those around him.

Dad,
A man who brought life
into this world, but will
turn a blind eye on
all those who care.

Dad?
you said you cared,
but you were never there.
You left me, you made me cry,
you're the reason why I can't
close my eyes.

Dad?
Do you remember the day
you walked out? In a blink of
an eye you were no longer in
sight, where are you?

Dad,
A man who lies his way through
life, destroying all
those who try and help.

Yea that's my dad.
